Sleep apnea treatments are constantly updating and moving forward and CPAP machines are no exception. There is now a huge range of travel CPAP machines on the market – one for every budget and every sleep apnea need. Below I take a look at a variety of different travel CPAP machines.
Zzz-PAP Silent Traveller
Possible the cheapest travel CPAP machine on the market, the Zzz-PAP ‘Silent Traveller’ CPAP Machine costs $179.00. It comes with a power cord, so you don’t need to worry about batteries, and it also comes with a lengthy six foot hose. The machine is very small and takes up the space of a CD case, and it’s also very quiet. It has received stellar reviews online and users are very pleased with the quality of the machine for the price.
Smallest CPAP
Transcend Soft & Wearable Travel CPAP
This machine is being touted as the ‘smallest CPAP machine ever’. It’s really quite revolutionary as the machine itself is actually attached to the mask – it sits on your head, so there is no hosing involved. It works with most common CPAP masks and it comes with a built-in humidifier. It costs $599.00, which makes it quite expensive. The reviews of this product are mixed, some users find it very easy to use but other users find it very uncomfortable. I’d advise you to really do your research on this product before you purchase it.
Automatic CPAP
IntelliPAP AutoAdjust Travel CPAP with SmartFlex
This CPAP machine comes with auto-adjust software and it also allows for exhalation relief along with smooth transitioning pressure where needed. It comes with a heated humidifier, pressure reduction technology, an easy-to-use interface and a technology that allows for you to track your CPAP therapy online. All of these features come in a small, travel-sized CPAP machine, in a small case with space for all of the accessories. The machine is available for $345.00 and has received rave reviews online.
Branded CPAP
ResMed S8 Escape Travel CPAP
One of the most well-known CPAP manufacturers is ResMed, and this travel machine is just as brilliant as their other machines. It’s small, lightweight and quiet, and it comes with an optional integrated humidifier and data scan card to enable you to track your therapy and compliance. It features a pressure ramp, automatic power adjustment, customisable reminders, a large LCD screen and manual altitude adjustment. It comes complete with hosing and a carry case, as well as a power cord and filter. It’s available for $722.00 and you do need a prescription to get this machine. Word of advice: this machine does need a power adapter for it to run properly.
Good All-Round CPAP
PR System One REMstar Plus CPAP Machine with C-Flex
This great all-round CPAP comes with lots of new technologies, including humidity control with dry box and resistance control. It is the first machine to take into account the temperature and humidity of the room and it has sensors that will automatically adjust the humidity inside the CPAP machine preventing rainout and condensation problems. The resistance control aspect of the machine allows for the optimum pressure to be achieved throughout the entire night, regardless of which mask you use. It’s manufactured by Philips Respironics and is available for $609.00.
Remember that if you’re buying a machine specifically for travel, it may be an idea to buy a mask for travel – something that is small, easy to store and easy to use. I would recommend a fabric mask for optimum comfort and because a fabric mask is easily folded away.
